1840s Dress

1840s Dress

This striped woven dress marks a time of fashion revolution. In 1846 Elias Howe patented the sewing machine, and fashion production changed forever.
From this time, almost all dresses were partially machine-made, with some finishing, such as sewing on buttons, done by hand. Fashion just got quicker; meaning too that the pace of change speeded up.
