Viru Gate

Viru Gate

Walk through Viru Square and take a step back in time. Built in the 14th century, the gate's twin towers were once part of a complex fortification system that protected the bustling trading heart of Tallinn. Most of the walls are gone, but the towers stand as a proud monument to the city's history and mark a gateway between its modern center and the old town. In the vicinity of the gate is a great selection of cafes, restaurants, and shops where you can buy souvenirs. When flowers are in bloom, colorful stalls full of them add a special touch to the gate. The gate is a great starting point for a tour of the historic center of Tallinn.
