Baskets, mats and soft bags were woven by women on the mainland of Alaska and on Kodiak and the Aleutian Islands. Baskets and bags were used as containers for transportation and storage. The mats served as room dividers, cushions, sails, blankets and mattresses.
This basket was constructed using twinning and coiling techniquies. Dyed grass, gut, yarn and cloth were used as decorative materials.
